Top International Energy Forum Commemorates 20th Anniversary of Kazakhstan
by VI KAZENERGY Eurasian ForumModerated by Larry King
(Astana, Kazakhstan)
On October 4th and 5th, 2011, Larry King, one of America's most popular television personalities and former host of CNN's talk show, Larry King Live, moderated the VI KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum. Larry King hosted the distinguished regional dialogue platform uniting the global energy industry and bringing together leading market participants in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
With the world’s 9th largest proven oil reserves, Kazakhstan is deploying its significant energy resources to achieve more than macroeconomic growth, which has averaged close 10% per annum over the last decade. While Kazakhstan’s firms adopt best practices in the oil and gas industry, the country is investing in innovation, fostering greater global energy efficiency and building an economy that transcends traditional energy through sustainability and renewable energy efforts.
This year, Kazakhstan’s efforts culminated in the VI KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum, connecting Europe and Asia with the global energy markets. Over the course of two days, the heads of government agencies from various countries and major international energy corporations, along with world-renowned and authoritative industry experts shared their views and experiences on the key industry issues for Eurasia and the world. This year’s forum was entitled “Kazakhstan: 20 Years of Sustainable Growth, New Horizons for Investment and Cooperation”, which was the main focus of discussion by the event’s participants.
The forum brought together the world industry leaders and experts, national, international, private and public companies, Kazakhstan’s government agencies and political leaders. Among the corporate leaders were executives from KazMunaiGas, BG Group, Chevron, Shell, Total E&P Kazakhstan, Exxon Mobil, North Caspian Operating Company, ConocoPhillips, Repsol, Siemens, Lukoil, and PetroKazakhstan, among several others.
As many of the forum speakers highlighted, to achieve technological and economic leadership, Kazakhstan must build on its national strengths by looking beyond its borders. Apart from strategic partnerships in the energy sector, Kazakhstan’s leading firms are engaging international expertise from globally recognized innovation hubs, financial centers, and academic institutions. From Wall Street, Harvard University and MIT on the East Coast to Silicon Valley, Stanford University and the University of Southern California on the West Coast, Kazakhstan is leveraging the best global talent to shape its future.
A partner of Boston Sloan Capital who attended the event noted: “The fact that the Eurasian forum takes place in Kazakhstan speaks for itself. The country has embraced its new position as a global energy producer, and its state agencies such as Kazakhstan Institute of Oil and Gas (KING) are investing resources in research and development of alternative energies and fostering relationships with leading global research centers.”
In today’s turbulent global economy, Kazakhstan’s dynamic strategy for its future presents a unique opportunity for foreign capital and energy market participants.
